Counseling with a fee set for your household

Anchor is a nonprofit clinic on South Hydraulic. Household size and income set your fee, and you have it in writing before your first session. We see adults, couples and families, in English and Spanish.

How it works

From first call to first session in four steps

  1. 01

Step 1: Call, write or start online

Tell us your name, how to reach you and which language you prefer. That is all we need to begin.

  2. 02

Step 2: Tell us how you pay

Medicaid, Medicare, private insurance or the sliding scale. Each one has its own short path.

  3. 03

Step 3: Get your fee in writing

Before your first session you have your fee, and a Good Faith Estimate if you pay without insurance.

  4. 04

    Step 4: Meet your clinician

A first session of about an hour. You decide together whether to keep going.

How fees work

  • Insurance we work with

Anchor bills Medicaid (KanCare), Medicare and many private plans, and you pay the copay or deductible your plan sets. We check your benefits and tell you what we found before your first session. If a plan does not cover a visit, we talk about the sliding scale with you.

    • Medicaid (KanCare)

    • Medicare

    • Most private plans, by plan type

  • If you pay yourself

If you do not have insurance, or you would rather not use it, your fee comes from our sliding scale. Household size and household income set your tier. You bring proof of income to intake, and we give you the fee in writing before your first session. Reduced-fee spots depend on funding, and we review your tier with you if your income changes. Please tell us 24 hours ahead if you need to change a session.

  • Receipts for reimbursement

Your own plan may reimburse part of a visit. For each session we give you an itemized receipt (a superbill) that you can send to your plan. It carries a diagnosis code that your insurer can see. Your plan decides what it pays, so ask it before you start.

  • An estimate in advance

If you pay without insurance, you have the right to receive a written Good Faith Estimate of what your care will cost before you start. We give you one with your sliding-scale fee. If the final bill is $400 or more above the estimate, you can dispute it. The estimate is not a contract.

  • Checking your benefits

Our intake team checks your benefits before your first session and tells you what they found, in English or Spanish. If you are not sure which path fits you, call us and we will sort it out together.

The sliding scale

Your tier, step by step

Two facts set your tier: how many people live in your household and what the household earns. If a fee would keep you from coming, tell us before your first session.

Questions

What nearly everyone asks first

Do you take my insurance?

We bill Medicaid (KanCare), Medicare and many private plans. Before your first session we check your benefits and tell you what your plan covers and what you would pay. If you do not have insurance, the sliding scale applies.

How much does it cost, and how do fees work?

It depends on how you pay. With insurance, your plan sets your copay or deductible. Without it, your household size and income set your tier on our sliding scale. Either way, you have the fee in writing before your first session.

What is a Good Faith Estimate?

If you pay without insurance, you have the right to receive a written estimate of what your care will cost before you start. We give you one with your sliding-scale fee. If the final bill is $400 or more above the estimate, you can dispute it. The estimate is not a contract.

What happens in the first session?

It lasts about an hour. Your clinician explains how they work, what stays private and where the limits are, and the possible risks and benefits of therapy. You talk about what you would like from the time, and you decide together whether to continue.

What do I do in a crisis?

Call or text 988, any time. In an emergency, call 911. Anchor is not an emergency service, and this site and our messages are not monitored around the clock.

What is confidential, and what are the limits?

What you share stays in the session. The law sets limits: if someone is at serious risk of harming themselves or another person, or if abuse of a child or an older adult is suspected, your clinician may have to tell others. We explain this in writing before you start.
